Everett L. Winfrey's Obituary
Everett Lee Winfrey traveled from his earthly home to his heavenly home on 18 March 2008 at the age of 95 yrs and 22 days. Everett was born on February 24, 1913, the second son and second child of nine born to James Warren Winfrey and Jessie Mae (Biggs) Winfrey. He lived with his parents on their farm north of Burlington, Kit Carson County, Colorado until his marriage.On February 20, 1932, Everett married Hallie Lucille Miser who was raised on a neighboring farm and was teaching school at Happy Hollow, Kit Carson County, Colorado. They continued to farm in the plains of southeastern Colorado, just as both of their parents had, and during this time two sons were born, Howard Lee and Donald Leroy.Everett accepted Christ as his Saviour and was baptized September 2, 1932, becoming a member of Liberty Baptist Church which met at Happy Hollow School, north of Burlington, CO. In the fall of 1947, Everett surrendered to the ministry, joining a heritage of Winfrey Baptist ministers stretching back over 200 years. After obtaining additional training at Faith Bible Academy, Camdenton, MO and Tennessee Temple Schools, Chattanooga, TN, he pastored 11 churches in 9 states over the next 35 years, until retiring due to health problems in 1983. He then became a faithful member of Bible Baptist Church, Puyallup, WA and faithfully served in many different capacities, never missing a Sunday service.Everett was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, James Clifton, Virgil Edward, Raymond Allen and Floyd Duane and 2 sisters, Iva Mae Barnhart and Mabel Lillian Davis. He leaves behind his wife Hallie of Lakewood, WA; 2 sons and daughter-in-law, Howard Winfrey of Manton, CA and Don (Sheri) Winfrey, Lakewood, WA; 3 grandchildren, Melinda (Steve) Alongi, Oakdale, CA, Ramona Winfrey, Prather, CA, David (Paulann) Winfrey, Gig Harbor, WA; and 2 great-grandchildren, Matt Alongi and Amy (Travis) Mankle; 1 brother, Irvin Oscar Winfrey, Des Moines, IA; 1 sister, Tressie Lola Rhoades, Burlington, CO; 4 sisters-in-law, MaryBeth Winfrey, Yates Center, KS; Beth Winfrey, Gainesville, FL; Ellen Winfrey, Independence, MO; Mary Conkling, Des Moines, IA.Viewing will be March 23, 2008 from 12-5 pm at Mt. View Funeral Home, 584-0252. Memorial Services will be held at Mt. View Funeral Home, Lakewood, WA in the Valley Chapel at 1 pm, March 24, 2008, and conducted by Pastor Marvin McKenzie and Missionary Will Rogers. Burial will follow at Woodbine Cemetery, Puyallup, WA.
