Evelyn Maxine Cooper's Obituary
Evelyn Maxine (Christofferson) Cooper, 92, passed away at home Sunday, June 18, 2017 and went home to meet her husband, Chuck, parents, Art and Lela Christofferson, son-in-law Rob Edwards, as well as friend, Bob Deacon, who all preceded her in death.
G’ma Cooper/G’ma Pooh was born in Tacoma February 13, 1925. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma graduating in 1942. Until she fell ill, Evelyn continued to participate in annual lunches with surviving classmates which she thoroughly enjoyed. Evelyn and Chuck married April 15, 1944 and after Chuck left the military, they settled in Tacoma and started their family. Evelyn worked as a cashier at Woolworths in Downtown Tacoma in the early years, moving on as a grocery clerk/bookkeeper with A&P in Tacoma and Manley’s in Fircrest until retiring. Evelyn was a long time member of Delta Theta Tau Philanthropic Sorority where she held numerous positions, but most proudly as President of the local Lamda Alpha Chapter as well as a seated National Officer for the Delta Theta Tau organization. Her time in the sorority not only provided many friendships that lasted a lifetime and the opportunity to support their causes, but also gave her the experience to travel to so many wonderful places. Another passion of hers over the past 10-15 years has been her family’s geneology research. She was very proud of where her roots started and loved to learn and discover more about it as the years went on.
Her loving, surviving family includes daughter, Bev Edwards, son, Larry Cooper and wife Dorene, sister Darlyne Crawford, cousin Charlotte Grange, grandchildren, Donna (Ryan) Risley, Rob Edwards, Denny Edwards, Anthony (Corinna) Cooper, Heather Cooper, Arron Jarvis, Chris (Kelly) Jarvis, great-grandchildren, Cole Risley, McKenzie Risley, Justin Cooper, Levi Cooper, Jaxson Cooper, Bennett Cooper, Brooklyn Cooper, Austin Edwards, Ady Edwards, Cydney Jarvis, Hayden Jarvis, Jace Jarvis , as well as numerous nieces, nephews, sorority sisters and friends. She will be greatly missed but we are all blessed by the memories she shared with us, the grace she showed us and love she taught us. She was spunky, silly and fun, and a true genuine lady who lived a proper and fulfilled life.
Memorial services will be held at Mt. View Funeral Home & Memorial Park in the Celebration of Life building 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SE, Lakewood WA 98499. Evelyn’s favorite cookies and beverages will be served immediately following the service.
