We all have memorable teachers and mentors and Miss Bostrom is in that group. Her quiet, gentle demeanor permeated her classroom while instilling a love of learning. I've known Evelyn and her sisters for many years through the Olympia Vasa No. 550. She always attended the meetings and as many of the functions as she could. Her bright smile and shining eyes always reflected her love for God and her fellow beings. She was a true inspiration to us all. Her presence here on Earth will be missed. I know we'll meet again. Although I din't have Miss Bostrom as a teacher I did know her from the neighborhood. I grew up around the corner from her on Cowlitz Way. I remember playing with her neice, I think Sharon, occasionally, when she came to visit. The first home my daughter had when she married was on the corner of Church and 7th in the same brick duplex that Miss Bostrom lived in. My Mother had Miss Bostrom for a teacher in about 1945 or 46. Even though I didn't, I still remember her as a "genteel" lady, very gracious and welcomeing to a young girl and her friends. Miss Bostrum picked Margaret Brown and me as annual co-editors for the '53 Bagpipe at Kelso High, taught us well but allowed reasonable leeway for some of our nutty choices. At WSC as a freshman newspaper reporter I was miles ahead of other freshmen due to the excellence ofl her teaching. Miss Bostrom was my teacher in 1957 at Kelso High School. I recognized her picture in the paper.We worked on the 1957 annual in the class. I can remember that the one career at that time that I would not consider was teaching. I ended up teaching science at Timberline High School for 30 years. I remember that I thought teachers had to work too hard after watching my high school teachers. Miss Bostrom was one of those hardworking teachers.

As a junior in Kelso High School; I remember, among other things, Miss Bostrom's class room as one I enjoyed and looked forward to attending. I also remember the day of the big earth quake; I was in her room at the time. We, all of us, ended up across the street until we realized we were standing under the power lines at which time she marched us around the block. Wonderful, wonderful lady.
