Eugenia "Jenny" Gilbert's Obituary
Eugenia (Jenny) Gilbert
Born October 15, 1924, Jenny passed away peacefully surrounded by her family after a brief illness on November 4, 2009. She is now with her Lord and in the arms of her beloved husband Jim.
Jenny was born in Poland, during the war she and her family was forced to flee to Germany. After the war she met a young American soldier, Jim Gilbert of Johnstown PA, who became the love of her life. They were married in Nuernberg Germany and spent over 50 years together. As a military family they spent time in Germany, New York and Pennsylvania before settling in Tacoma in 1959. When Jim retired Jenny and Jim became dedicated Tacoma Mall walkers. They loved camping and travelling in their motor home. After Jim's passing, Jenny became very active at the Eagles Aerie #3 in South Tacoma where she worked many hours volunteering in food service as well as serving as an officer in the Auxiliary. In 2001 she was honored as Mrs. Eagle of the year. Jenny was able to continue to travel with her family to many places.
They have been members of Hope Lutheran Church for over 45 years.
Jenny's legacy will continue on in her daughters Karin Brown of Yelm WA and Bonnie (Mike) Doyle of Tacoma WA. Jenny was also blessed by 6 grandchildren, Leona (Lance) Parker, Jim Brown, Tina Jimenez, Jennifer Pioquinto, Ben (Holly) Doyle, Steve (Lisa) Doyle, 14 great grandchildren, Scott Brown, Eric Brown, Tony Pioquinto, Ale Jimenez, Adrian Jimenez, Kiersten Brown, Amanda Pioquinto, Alicia Pioquinto, Lucas Doyle, Amelia Jimenez, Elliot Doyle, Christian Pioquinto, Karina Pioquinto, Kodiak Doyle and also 1 great-great grandchild Jordon Nicole Brown. And to think it all began because two people fell in love.
Viewing will be Monday November 9th from 1 PM to 9 PM at Mountain View Funeral Home with a graveside service November 10th at 10:30 AM and memorial/celebration of life service at Hope Lutheran Church, 7209 South Puget Sound beginning at 1 PM.
