Eugene K Maun's Obituary
Eugene K. Maun, 91, of Lakewood, WA, passed on August 27, 2017, in Lakewood. He was born July 25, 1926 in Lafayette, Indiana. Eugene attended the University of Illinois, where he was a member of the Phi Betta Kappa fraternity, he graduated with a BS in Engineering. He later attended Cal Tech, graduating with a Pd.D. in Chemistry. Post-graduation, he began a career as a control systems engineer at General Dynamics (Aerojet – General Corp). He also worked for Hewlett Packard, General Electric, Hanford Westinghouse, & finally Boeing, where he retired as a rocket scientist. Eugene married Patricia Scamfer at Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood, Washington in 1989.
He was very active in his community, being involved with St. Francis Cabrini School, Lakewood Area Shelter Association, FISH Foodbank, YMCA, and the Lakewood Historical Society. He loved the art of letter writing, & corresponded with many friends near and far. He loved spending time at the Seattle Museum of Flight, the Seattle Opera Society, and his Little Church on the Prairie family.
Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; sister Margo Maun; stepsons Lester, Bret, and Otto Scamfer; niece Nora Flores; and special friends Steve Rinnan, Al and Diane Rivera, and Alec Crouse.
Eugene’s family would like to extend a special, thank you to everyone at Bridgeport Place, for their loving care of Eugene, “You will never be far from our hearts because of your kindness.”
A celebration of Eugene’s life will take place at The Little Church on the Prairie, 6310 Motor Ave SW, Lakewood, WA 98499, on Saturday, September 9, 2017 at 1pm. In Lieu of flowers, Eugene’s family would prefer that you offer a memorial gift to any of the organizations listed above.
