Eugene Jones' Obituary
Eugene "Opa" Jones
Eugene Jones, beloved husband of Rosa Jones, departed this life Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the Lakewood Health Care Center. Eugene was born December 9, 1934 in Gurdon, Arkansas, to the Union of the late Mr. Ester Jones and late Mrs. Dora (Carter) Jones. Seven other siblings also preceded him in death. At age ten, his entire family moved to Chicago. There he graduated from high school and later entered the US Army. In 1960, his military travels took him to Germany, where he met his beloved Rosa, whom he married two years later in Tacoma, Washington on January 19, 1962. During his 20 years of service, tours of duty took them back to Germany several times and also included Thailand, Korea, Maryland, and finally back to Ft. Lewis, Washington. After retirement from military service, Eugene worked as a mechanic and security guard before he faced multiple health challenges. While Eugene courageously fought each battle, Rosa lovingly cared for him and stood steadfast by his side. Throughout the years of poor health which were far too many, Eugene found great pleasure in puzzles of all kinds and loved watching television game shows, his favorite being Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. He also found great comfort in his faith as a Jehovah Witness. Eugene is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years Rosa, "adopted" family, Elisabeth, Michael, & Katherine ("Boopsie") Bitz and her daughter "Maddy" Renick (all of Lakewood, WA), his sister Yvonne Jones, Omaha, NB, Stepson Heinz Peter Wirrer Sr., Step-Grandson Heinz Peter Wirrer Jr., Step-Great Grandson's, Jimmy and Timo Wirrer (all of Kaiserslautern, Germany), and many other family and friends in Austria, Germany, and the United States. Eugene was deeply loved by all and will be missed greatly. The Family would like to extend special thanks for the kind and loving care Eugene received at the Lakewood Health Care Center over the past four years and also give special mention to Brother James Waagan, and many other loving fellow believers, members of the Lakewood Kingdom Hall, for their faithfulness, dedication, and friendship for many years. Please join us for Memorial Services 4 PM on Friday, August 22, 2008 in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Memorial Park and Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood (253.584.0252).
