Eugene Hursley's Obituary
Eugene Lewis Hursley Jr. After high school, being the free spirit Lew was, he spent time working and traveling in various places, including two years in the Hawaiian Islands. Lew then returned to college and graduated from Central Washington University in 1987. Lew's degrees gave him several options for employment. He, however, chose to work in the field of construction. He was an artist with his finishing work and wasn't satisfied until his work was perfect. Lew's greatest pleasure was being in nature; camping, hunting, fishing, horseback riding, watching wildlife, and adventures seeing open country. His latest passion was sailing. Lew and his wife Eleanor had many opportunities to travel throughout the U.S. and journeyed to Europe a half a dozen times. During quiet times, Lew enjoyed reading, especially about history. Lew was born Jan. 28, 1946 to Alice and Eugene Hursley in Seattle, WA. He died peacefully on Nov. 9, 2011 at his home in Tacoma. Lew was treated for brain cancer and fought bravely for over twenty months. During his illness, Lew found peace and serenity through Jesus Christ his Lord. He leaves behind his wife, Eleanor, of fifteen years, her two sons, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren who loved and had great respect for him. Lew cherished his sister, Meg Graddon (Rod), who took every occasion she could to help him and spend time with him. Lew was preceded in death by his mother, father, and younger brother. We wish to thank the staff in Tacoma General Cancer Center, MultiCare Hospice, and the many neighbors, friends, and church members who gave support to Lew and his family. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 2:30 at Mountain View Cemetery, in the Celebration of Life Center, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW., Lakewood. A reception will follow. Memorials in Lew's name may be given to Tacoma General Hospital Cancer Center or a charity of your choice . Please sign the on line guest book at www.mountainviewtacoma.com
