Eugene Donald Griffith, Jr.

Age 74, resident of Tacoma, Washington passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Franciscan Hospice House in University Place due to pneumonia and other complications.
Born September 5, 1938 in Quitman, GA. Son of Eugene Donald and Clara (Padgett). He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in 1960. He attended the Infantry Officers Basic Course, Airborne and Ranger courses before being assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, later serving in the 101st Airborne. He served three tours in Vietnam and earned the Bronze Star, retiring at the rank of Major.
After retirement from the military, he worked in commercial development in Houston, TX, New Orleans, LA, Tampa, FL, and Atlanta, GA. While in Atlanta he worked for Cobb County Department of Transportation and helped launch Cobb Community Transit in Marietta, GA. He later joined the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority until his retirement in 2002.
Survived by his spouse Lynne, three children, Jennifer of Athens, GA, Rachel of Nashville, TN, and Douglas Carlisle, of PA, step-children Dennis Willis of Atlanta, GA, Andrew Christian of Atlanta, GA and Andrea Dewey Kalm of Ada, MI; grandchildren Lucy, Simon, Jacob, Ian, and Joshua; sister Martha Wittevrongel of Tallahassee, FL.
A private memorial service was held on Friday, September 28, 2012 at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA by Sister Pat Walsh. The family requests that donations be made to Franciscan Hospice and Palliative Care at 2910 Bridgeport Place West, University Place, WA 98466.
