Ethel Mathews, 95, a long-time resident of Enumclaw, Washington took her last breath on this earth, and her first breath in the arms of her Savior and Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, June 3, 2016 at Brookdale Senior Living in Gig Harbor, Washington. She graced the world with her presence on March 21, 1921 in Olympia, Washington. Her parents, Arthur and Edna Jenkins began raising her at the Mud Bay Logging Camp near Olympia. She was one of three children; both siblings, Olive, and Archie Jenkins having long since passed away.
She moved to Mineral, Washington, and completed high school in Morton, Washington in 1940. She then married her husband, Leo Mathews on June 27 of that same year. Soon after, they made their home in Enumclaw.
She had a strong love for animals of any kind, especially her cat. While living in Enumclaw you could always see her working in her flower garden. She loved tending her plants. She was always loving on her children and friends. Above all, she had a deep love for her Lord and Savior. This world is a better place for her having been here.
Ethel is survived by children, William Mathews of Olympia, Vicki Hankinson of Gig Harbor, Trudy D’Armond of Buckley, and Lori Larsen living in California. She was granted eight grandchildren, and ten great-grandchildren.
She will be buried alongside her husband, Leo Mathews. They were married for 52 years. Her funeral service will be at the Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, Washington.
Her family would like offer their thanks and appreciation to the staff and residents at Brookdale Senior Living, Betty Hawkins, Franciscan Hospice and the Gig Harbor Medic One Team.
