Esther Ruth Olsen's Obituary
Esther Ruth Olsen
Feb. 24, 1912 - Mar. 12, 2009
Esther was born to Ralph and Floy Bulkley in Wakaruse, Kansas. She was the last of twelve children: Clyde, Clair, Wayne, Chester, Ray, Bruce, Viola F. Kiehl, Maranda Morgan, Doris Simonson, Josie Lidaky, and Edna Kuns. In the 1940's Esther moved to California where she met a young Norwegian fisherman named Ed Olsen. They married on November 16, 1948 and moved to Tacoma, Washington. Becoming and adopted Norsk, she learned to camp, fish, dig clams, shuck oysters, and even dip smelt, usually in a raincoat. Together they would build a fine home that was shared with cats, dogs, and even Tweety, the bird. Their home was filled with fun, joy, and often the smell of turkey or lutefisk. Losing Ed in 1990, she found the strength in her faith and family until the day they met again. The family would like to thank Peoples Retirement Community for their four years of assistance. We also wish to thank the staff of Cottesmore for the care and kindness she received in her last four months. A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, march 21st at 11:00 am at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, located at 101 East 38th Street in Tacoma. The 2:30 graveside service will be at Mountain View Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. S.W. in Lakewood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethlehem Lutheran Church.
