Esther M. Miller's Obituary
Esther M. Miller, of Lakewood, WA, passed away on April 25, 2001 at the age of 95. She is survived by her daughter Orene E. Applegate, who spent the last few years living "across the driveway," a step-son, Fred Miller, and a step-daughter, Alice Corbin. Thanks to her neighbors Cliff Clark, Parley Applegate, and Bonney Barnes for the many times they assisted in her ability to live by herself in her own family homestead. Esther was affectionately known by many as "Mom" because of how she treated them. She was very active in her Woodbrook neighborhood and in the City of Lakewood. This short, stocky lady often reminded the City Council members of both major and minor concerns. She attended just about every neighbor meeting that was held, and served as a Director on the Board of Directors for the Tillicum Center for over eleven years. Esther was born in Rocky Ford, Colorado. Moving to various places, she finally settled in her current home in 1947. She managed one of the Madigan Hospital Post Exchanges for thirteen years before marrying Everett Miller. Esther was a member of the Community of Christ church, formerly known as the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She taught Sunday School classes, but was mostly known for producing several religious plays and delivering challenging and meaningful Early Sunday Morning Worships. She masterminded several church bazaars and fund-raising dinners. Donations to Tillicum Center, 14916 Washington Ave. SW, Lakewood, WA 98498.
