Estella Crowell's Obituary
Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. ~ Proverbs 31:10
Estella Crowell, 86, was called home on June 12, 2011, in Tacoma, WA. She was born on April 20, 1925, in Flora, Mississippi, to Frank and Cora (Gibson) Thomas. On December 19, 1942 she married Lewis Crowell and gave birth to her only child, L.C. Crowell on August 11, 1944. She moved to Washington in 1975 and made Tacoma her home.
Known as Mama, Mother, Grandma Crowell, Mother Crowell and Peanut, Mrs. Crowell, was a doting mother and grandmother who enjoyed crocheting, knitting, cooking, sewing, shopping, traveling, game shows, puzzles of any kind and studying the Bible. She loved life. Helping people with their needs was her joy and she even extended this in the work that she did. Grandma Crowell worked as a housekeeper, worked in a nursing home and retired from Beacon Senior Center where she was a Senior Aid for many years.
Mother Crowell, as her church family called her, loved her family (biological and church) very much but most importantly, she loved the Lord. Her love for God showed in everything that she did; whether serving her family, providing church members with her delicious pound cakes during the holidays or doing work at her congregation. At St. John Church Transformation Ministries International, where she has been a member for 36 years, she served as a Sunday School Teacher, President of the Senior Mission Board and President of the Senior Usher Board.
Estella was a stylish dresser who could -Å"wear a hat-. Her quick-wit, sense of humor, straightforwardness and caring heart made her well liked in her community, in her church and even in the assisted living facility and nursing home where she resided in her last years. Despite the physical challenges that she faced, she rarely complained and always thanked God for what she had. Estella was loved and will be missed.
She is survived by her son, L.C. Crowell, Dolores Crowell (daughter-in-law), two granddaughters, Denise and Toni Crowell and grandson, Lewis Charles Crowell, all of Tacoma, Washington and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins in various locations. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis Crowell and her siblings Johnnie, Betty, Percy, Mary Ellen, Luther and Clayburn.
