Ernest J. McGregor's Obituary
Ernie passed away peacefully on June 4, 2005 at the age of 86. Ernie was born in Frazee, Minnesota, the youngest of three children. He grew up in Coeur dÂ'Alene, Idaho and graduated from high school there in 1939. Ernie served his country in Europe during WWII as an infantryman and medic with the 100th Infantry Division and was a Disabled American Veterans Life Member. After returning from the war he spent the remainder of his life in Tacoma rearing three children with his wife of 58 years, June (Lee) McGregor. He worked 35 years as a clerk with the U.S. Post Office where his good humor and eagerness to serve was appreciated by coworkers and customers alike. Ernie loved his family and friends and will be remembered as one who loved to laugh and make others do the same. He enjoyed sports, story telling, the polka and the occasional game of chance. Ernie was a member of Tacoma Elks Lodge No. 174 for forty years. He and wife June square danced with the Hix n' Chix and Swinging Squares dance clubs beginning in 1957. Ernie leaves his wife, June; children, Jim (Caren), Jay (Sue), their son Jason, and Janet (Mark) Hobbs. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson Jeffrey McGregor.
