Ermelina S Magaway's Obituary
Ermelina Sipin Magaway was born February 28, 1934 in San Leon, Balungao, Pangasinan, Philippines, to Bartolome and Maura Sipin. With her family by her side, she died peacefully on November 11, 2017 in Lakewood, Washington.
A blessed life, well-lived, Ermelina married her pen-pal sweetheart, Simy Foriel Magaway on March 27, 1957 in her hometown in the Philippines. This year they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary and their legacy of devoted love continues on in their five children and nine grandchildren.
Raising her children in a military life, Ermelina & Simy, who was a Army Drill Sergeant, moved several times throughout Simy’s military career. They moved from Hawaii to North Carolina to Washington and back to Hawaii before settling in Lakewood, Washington over 50 years ago.
Ermelina retired from Boeing after 11 years working as a fabrication seamstress. Before that, she retired from the Post Exchange in Fort Lewis after 17 years as a retail salesclerk.
A woman of strong faith, Ermelina grew up a devout catholic, with that faith passed on to her family. She was a long time member of St John Bosco Catholic Church and provided volunteer ministry along side her many friends.
Ermelina is survived by her husband Simy Magaway. She is also survived by daughters, Maureen and Lisa; sons, Simy Jr. (Kathy), Alan (Wanda) and Wayne (Eden); grandchildren, Paxton, Bronson, Lea, Rocco, Cristalina, Macy, Alexis, Madison and Spencer.
She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and a wonderful friend to countless others. Although we miss her dearly, Ermelina is forever at peace in heaven.
A viewing will be held Tuesday, November 21, 2017 at Mt. View Funeral Home, in Lakewood, Washington from 2:00pm – 8:00pm.
A memorial mass will be held on Wednesday, November 22, at 11:00am at St. John Bosco Church in Lakewood, Washington. Burial at Mt. View Funeral Home will immediately follow mass. Reception details to be announced.
