Erling C. Mellum's Obituary
GOING HOME, GOING HOME,
I'M JUST GOING HOME...
Erling was born on March 28th, 1932 to Eldred and Clara Mellum in Ulen, Minnesota. He grew up in Tacoma and graduated from Stadium High School. After high school he enlisted in the US Marine Corps where he served in the Korean war. After his service he attended Pacific Lutheran College where he met his wife Nancy. Erling had a passion for education. He earned his Master’s Degree in Education at Orgon State University, and retired after a 30 year career with the Tacoma School District as an elementary school principal. He served as a past President of the Washington State Principals Association. Erling and Nancy were married in Puyallup, Washington and celebrated 60 years together. They had four children, sons Mark (Peggy) and Michael, and two daughters Jennifer and Julie (Andy). He had five grandchildren that he adored. Family time was a priority and many great memories were made. Erling greatly enjoyed spending time on the golf course. He was a charter member at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, Tacoma Washington. He was preceded in death by his son Michael and grandson Zachary. Visitation will be at Mountain View Funeral Home, Thursday June 20th from 12:00pm – 8:00pm, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd SW, Lakewood. A service will be held at 10am, Friday, June 21st in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home and Memorial Park. A celebration of Erling’s life will be announced and held at a later date. A sincere thank you for all the prayers and condolences.
