Emma Unkrur's Obituary
Emma, fondly known as G.G. to her family, passed away July 7, 2010 in her sleep. She was born January 26, 1924 in Seattle to Albert and Johana Nielsen. She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Arthur T. Unkrur, a Naval officier whom she met while he was stationed in Seattle. Art and Emma established Paradise Bowl in the Parkland Spanaway area. Emma was also was involved in the community; she and her daughters were active in Campfire Girls and later shared her daughters' love for Appaloosa horses. She was inducted into the Mt. Rainier Appaloosa Club's Hall of Fame in 1994. Her daughters and granddaughters became local and national Appaloosa champions. She also was proud of breeding and raising several national and world champion horses. She spent her later years enjoying another love, traveling, returning to Denmark to see the homeland of her parents. She spent many hours traveling the US in her RV, spending winters in Arizona where she lived until returning to Washington in 2006.
Emma is survived by her five children, Elizabeth Jones, husband Gary, Tacoma, Barbara Hansch, Amarillo, Texas, Duane Unkrur, Houston, Texas, Carol Unkrur, University Place, and Kenneth Unkrur, wife Lisa, Tacoma, grandchildren Tammy, Ali, Michelle, Kim, Brittany, Brandon, Kelly and Sierra, great-grandchildren Jade, Kiara, Aiden, Solana and Banner. She is also survived by extended family members Teresa Unkrur, Les Shannon, Marian, Tim and Dennis Unkrur and their families.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Beta Adult Family Home and their employees and others that helped care for Emma in her last years.
A graveside gathering will be held Saturday July 17th, 2010, 11AM, at Mt. View Memorial Park, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd, Lakewood, WA. Afterward the family would like to invite her friends to a celebration of her life.
