Emiliana F. Gatbunton's Obituary
Emiliana "Miling" Frias Gatbunton
Emiliana "Miling" Frias Gatbunton Emiliana, 99, passed away with family by her side on May 10, 2012 in Lakewood, Washington. She was born on February 8, 1913 in San Antonio, Nueva Ecija, PI; moved to Tacoma, WA in 1965 to enjoy her husband's retirement after his 30-year military career. She was preceded by her beloved husband of 62 years, Saturnino Gatbunton, son Fortunato and his wife Corazon, and great-grandson Joshua. Survived by her children Cesar (Martha), Benny (Jeannie), Terry (Rennie), and Roy (Janette), 11 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Devoted Catholic guided by faith, she gained strength and hope through her devotion to St. Jude, family patron saint and Divine Mercy.
Caring for her garden was one of her greatest joys. She was meticulous and worked tirelessly to transform their simple Tacoma property into an unforgettable oasis. She was a friend to many, talented seamstress and beautician. She also enjoyed numerous vacations with family and friends. She was a natural hostess and took pleasure in cooking for family, friends and guests - everyone was welcome and everyone went home with a little "baon". She was most proud of her family and beamed with pride watching her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren excel in musical performance, sports, academics and following in her footsteps of creating a beautiful home, garden and family. She was the family matriarch who has left the legacy that "A family that prays together stays together".
A memorial gathering will be held at Mountain View Funeral Home on Monday, May 14, 2012; 5:30pm Viewing, 7pm Rosary followed by remembrances. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 15 at Visitation Catholic Church in Tacoma, 11:30am. Private burial for immediate family.
