Elwin Morin's Obituary
Elwin Keith Morin Sr, 90, passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Whatcom County Hospice House. Elwin was born January 3, 1925 in Gladstone, Michigan to John Henry and Esther (Rinard) Morin and was one of five children.
Elwin served in the U.S. Navy in WWII as an Aviation Radioman and was a member of Torpedo Squadron 87. He was in the last Navy Air Wing to drop bombs on Japan and was present in Tokyo Harbor for the signing of the Japanese surrender. It was during an open-house on his ship the USS TICONDEROGA CV-14 that he met his future wife Patsy Ruth Highfill of Tacoma.
Patsy and Elwin were married on April 13, 1947 in Tacoma at Little Church on the Prairie. They lived the last 30 years in Auburn, WA. Elwin worked all of his adult life for the Boeing Company at various locations in the Puget Sound area. He retired after 37 years as the head of Facilities for the Defense and Space Division and was affectionately known as “Facilities Al”. An avid outdoorsman he enjoyed a lifetime of hunting, fishing, camping, boating and golfing.
Elwin is survived by his wife Patsy; brother Robert Morin, Sr. of Muskegon; sister, Paula Jean Vanderstelt of Muskegon; sons Elwin Keith Jr. of Tucson; William (Madeline) of Blaine; Charles (Laura) of Seabeck; James of Woodinville; Timothy (Jami) of San Diego; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Elwin was preceded in death by his parents and brothers John and Donald.
Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, August 22, 2015 at the Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to any cancer research or hospice center.
