Elvira "Sunshine" Root's Obituary
Elvira Mangaoang Root “Sunshine”, 72, was born in San Fabian, Pangasinan on September 20, 1946 to Erminio Peralta and Carmen Mangaoang. Growing up with her siblings Linda, Lily, Grace, Tony, Arthur, and Dadong. She attended 3 years at Dagupan City College studying business administration.
Sunshine and Ron married on December 21, 1969 in San Fabian, Pangasinan. When Ron first laid eyes on her, he stated, “I had to get to know her.” They were blessed with a large and loving family.
Sunshine traveled with Ron to several AFB locations. In 1980, Sunshine moved with Ron to Beale AFB, California and she worked at the exchange on base for 20 years.
In 1999, Sunshine and Ron were called by God to move to Tacoma, Washington to help Ron’s brother Terry in the ministry. Sunshine started working at Spanaway Albertsons. Since then Sunshine has worked at numerous Albertsons throughout the region, her most recent location was Steilacoom Albertsons, were she became a valuable member of the community.
Sunshine modeled a passion for family, Jesus Christ and His Word. She had a strong Christian faith and loved God. She was a member of Restoration Life Church in Lakewood, Washington and served in hospitality. You could always count on Sunshine to bring a decorative cake from one of her Albertsons stores.
Sunshine loved bowling and was in numerous tournaments at multiple AFB locations. Her and Ron really enjoyed riding bikes together. Overall, Sunshine loved spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, church family, Albertsons family and customers.
Sunshine has touched the lives of so many by her genuine care and love for people. She made everyone feel like they were family and took time to build a relationship with everyone and always had a smile, hug, or story to share. She was very loyal and selfless, she would give you the shirt off her back without hesitation. Sunshine was a vibrant and gracious woman and will be greatly missed.
Sunshine is survived by her husband of 50 years, Ron F. Root; 5 children; Darryl Root of Spanish Fork, UT, Loni (Kim) Parry of Nampa, ID, Max (Cindy) Root, Yuba City, CA, Katherine (Jerry) Manson, Auburn, WA, Terry Root, Great Falls, MT; 14 grandchildren; Stephen (Ginny) Root, Nicole (Thomas) Root, Michal Root, Leanne (Kalan) Parry, Heather Parry, Cody (Karly) Parry, Alli Parry, Amber Christian, Nikki (Josh) Goldsberry, Krisma Root, Blaise Saya, Carmen (Lorenzo) Lewis, Ronnie Manson, Jordan Manson; 18 great grandchildren; Gracie Richardson, Kaylee Jones, Ivan Jones, Areianna Poe, Jamison Parry, Austin Parry, Aaron Root, Gracie Root, Korbyn Mcgukin, Justin Perreira, Lexi Land, Cameron Root, Leilani Christian, Michael Christian, Stephan Christian, Jason Kline, Scarlett Goldsberry, Lorenzo Lewis III.
Sunshine returned to her heavenly home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on September 9, 2019 after passing away peacefully surrounded by family at UW Medical Center in Seattle, Washington.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 20, 2019 at 2:45pm at Mountain View Funeral Home in Lakewood, WA. Pastor Fred Clark will officiate the service. A reception to follow at Village Green Recreation Center in Tacoma, WA. at 4:45pm.
