Elsie Johnson's Obituary
Elsie M. Johnson, in the loving arms of her granddaughter, Teresa, peacefully passed through the gates of heaven on Saturday, October 4, 2008 where her husband, John Jr., her parents Jens and Alice and her twin sister Ethel were awaiting her arrival. Elsie was born February 28, 1923 on Anderson Island, Washington where she married her childhood sweetheart, John, in a garden ceremony on the island. Elsie lived her entire adult life in Tacoma as a homemaker and spent nearly every summer weekend back on Anderson Island, which she believed was "just a small part of God's masterpiece." She was an active member of Gethsemane Lutheran Church where she volunteered hundreds of hours, to include being a member of the Church Council, a volunteer at the Tacoma Lutheran Home, the Fish Food Bank, a member of the PTAEat her children's elementary and middle schools, Rainbow Mother's Club, Tahoma Dance Club and Past President of the Anderson Island Community Club. She leaves behind her son, Rod of Gig Harbor and daughter Judy Whiteside of Vancouver, WA, grandchildren Jeffrey Johnson, Steven Johnson, Teresa Ward, Tracy Whiteside, Robert Whiteside, Lisa Ferguson and 8 great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Franciscan Hospice for their excellent care and comfort with a special thank you to Cora, at The Village, as well as her other caretakers who spent many loving hours making sure that Elsie was happy and comfortable during her last few years in her assisted living apartment. Memorial services will be held at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 1331 S. 76th St., Tacoma on Saturday, October 18th at 1:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Tacoma Lutheran Home or Franciscan Hospice.
