Elsie C. Schlegel's Obituary
Elsie Elizabeth Carr Schlegel Our beautiful Mother passed from this earth into the arms of her Heavenly Father and to the loving embrace of her husband, her sweetie Bob, for whom she had so longed, since his death on July 5th, 2005. She was taken from our midst as a result of Alzheimer's, which robbed our Mother of many things, but never took away her loving and sweet spirit, which journeyed with her on that last walk to her new home. Mom's life was filled with the enrichment she received from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. That is something Mom and Dad loved to do. Mom and Dad also had numerous friends, whose lives they touched by their diligence in serving others through their participation with Emmanuel Baptist Church in Olympia, The First Baptist Church in Kennewick, South Tacoma Baptist Church, and most recently the Chapel at the Veteran's Hospital in Tillicum. Elsie and Bob also made many friends with the EX-Prisoners of War chapter in Tacoma, which was a large part of their lives during their retirement. It's hard to talk about Mom without mentioning Dad, because they were the consummate couple, together always until Dad's passing, and now together again. Mom had a love for collecting and searching for bargains on crystal, china, tea cups and saucers, and whatever else she happened upon that brought joy to her, or thought another family member would enjoy. When you received one of these treasures from Mom, you knew she had lovingly sought it out for you to cherish as much as she enjoyed her time in finding it for you. She also loved working in her August 27, 1929 - March 26, 2008 yard, and would spend hours doing so, taking care of weeds and nurturing special plants and flowers. Sometimes the weeds were deemed worthy of staying and had their place of status in her special "Back to Nature" area. She loved to travel with Dad and often with some of their children. The trips were never complete without a little antique shopping and at least one good meal out! Elsie was preceded in death by her husband Robert (Bob) L. Schlegel, a grandson, Jesse Robert Hursh, and a great-grandson, Christian Maxwell. Elsie is survived by her brother Ed Anderson. She is also survived by four daughters, Cherie Felts and her husband Sandy, Patti Rogers and husband John, Mary Bartlett and husband Darryl, Priscilla Poole and husband Dean, along with her three sons, including Rob Schlegel and his domestic partner Douglas Adkins, Carl Schlegel and his wife Lanny, Calvin Schlegel and his wife Heather. In addition, she s also survived by the following grandchildren: Jeromy and Traci Felts, Darin Felts, Kristin and Bob Keller, Andy and Anne Rogers, Brady Rogers, Joshua and Karrah Rogers, Kristy Barber, Kimberly and John Canario, Carly and Cory Gubser, Casey Schlegel, Carman and Brian McGuire, Nathaniel and Stephanie Bartlett, Daniel Bartlett, Sarah Patzer, Jillian and Ian Aloisio, Jeffrey Hursh, Janessa Hursh, Emily Poole, Benjamin Poole, Carissa Batka, Alexis Schlegel, Gabriella Schlegel and Monet Schlegel. She is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren: Ali Jo, Abigail, Kenny; Jacob, Savvanah, Bryce, Alyssa, Ashley, Anthony, Ciera, Dayton, Christopher, Zackery, Benjamin, Ally, Tony, Alex, Conner, and Claire. We are sure that Mom would like to be remembered as a loving, gracious woman, who devoted her life to the Lord and her family. She will be dearly missed by all of us. The funeral will be held on Monday, March 31, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Mountain View Funeral and Memorial Park in Tacoma, in the Garden Chapel. Visitation is available from 11:00 AM Sunday until 11:00 AM Monday. The family suggest that memorial donations be made to American Ex-Prisoners of War, 9716 54th Street Court West, University Place, WA 98467-1118.
