Elmie M. Laban's Obituary
Elmie Marcia Laban was born on the Island of Curacao on March 3rd, 1926. At a young age, she moved with her family to the neighboring island of Aruba.
She married and had two sons, Richard and Donald. She separated from their father and eventually met the love of her life, Dalby A. Laban. They married on June 6th, 1949 and remained together until his passing 51 years later. That love produced 4 children. Brenda, Gilbert, Jonathan and Audrey. The family moved to the Island of St. Croix in 1968 and resided there for the next 32 years. In Sept. of 2000, she moved to Washington State and lived with her daughter, Brenda, for her remaining 25 years. She quickly became a favorite of the local Chamorro Community. She loved attending the parties. Elmie or "Oma "as most people called her, was adopted and loved by all, who met her.
She is preceded in death by her husband. Dalby, parents, siblings and daughter-in-law 2 Blanca Savan's. She is survived by her sons Richard and Donald Savan's, Gilbert and Jonathan Laban Daughters Brenda and Audrey Laban. Grandchildren Sandra, Ellen, Giovanni, Pablo, Gino, Maroussia, Jayson, Gilbert, Joshua, Janel, Jessica, Jade and Brendacia as well as 13 great-grandchildren Daughters-in-law, Deborah Savans, Carol Laban and Salma Laban. Numerous nieces and nephews in the Henriquez, Engelbreht, Del Prado, Sintingo. Thizen, Tearr, Croes, Thomas, Scaroni, Lampkin, Geerman and Ridderstap families. Special Family friends , Fanny and Larry Nyack, Eren Edwards and Mahealani Leon Guerrero. All other families in Aruba, Holland, Curacao and ST. Maarten Her church family the Ebenezer + Bethel congregation of the Methodist church, St. Croix Circuit, and the Chamorro Community of Western Washington.
Elmie was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, tante and friend. She loved God and read scripture every day. She will be truly missed by all who Knew and loved her.
