Elmer W. Casaday's Obituary
Loving father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away peacefully August 19th in Fircrest. He was born December 19, 1919 in Tacoma, WA to Elmer and Josie (Smith) Casaday. He was married to Helen E. Howes September 18, 1943 in Elma, WA.
He is survived by three daughters: Pam Brauner, Janet Baughn (Thom) and Sue Bell. He is also survived by sister-in-law Shirley Howes, 6 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, extended family members as well as many close friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Josie Casaday, wife Helen of 64 years, and son-in-law Carl Brauner.
Elmer was in the Marine Corps reserves from September 14, 1937 to June 18, 1947. He was enlisted in the Army National Guard from 1947 to September 1, 1967.
Elmer worked for the War Department at McChord Field from August 1941 – March 1947. He worked at the American Lake VA from March 1947 – November 1974 when he retired.
Elmer mostly enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping and spending time at the beach. He and his wife Helen were founding members of the Fircrest United Methodist Church. He organized hunger walks, Methodist men’s breakfast, XYZ and attended Bible study for many years. He will always be in our hearts and memories and will be deeply missed.
He was an avid Mariners and Seahawks fan. He took great pride in them, especially when they did as he thought they should!
Elmer’s life will be celebrated with a viewing on Friday, September 9th from 2-7pm at Mountain View Funeral Home. The graveside service will be Saturday, September 10th at 11:30 at Mountain View Memorial Park. A memorial service will be held at 1pm at the Fircrest UMC 1018 Columbia Ave in Fircrest Saturday, September 10th with a reception to follow.
