Ellen Louisa Clinkingbeard's Obituary
Ellen Louisa Clinkingbeard was born on December 17, 1918 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to William and Elsie Overholt. Ellen went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday February 5, 2008 at the age of 89. Ellen married Vernon Clinkingbeard on February 6, 1936 in Blackwell, OK. They moved to Tacoma, WA in August 1946 with their four children. The family attended South Tacoma Christian Church. In her later years, Ellen attended Temple Baptist Church. Vernon preceded her in death on May 20, 1980. Also preceding Ellen were her siblings Ethiel Walker, Robert Overholt, Charles Overholt and James Overholt. Ellen is survived by her sister Betty Attebery of N. Ogden, Utah. Also surviving are her children Jacqueline (Dale) Steichen, Jerry (Karen Dawson) Clinkingbeard, Judith (George) Schonhard, and Jimmie Jolene (Marvin) Chastain. Grandchildren are Debra Stojack, Susan (William) Pebley, Paul (Angie) Clinkingbeard, Phyllis Criss, Michelle (Archie) Lomax, Bryan Clinkingbeard, David (Nancie) Schonhard, Vernon Legere, Jana Moffett and Jacqueline Legere. There are 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great great-grandchild. Ellen dearly loved her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They knew Nana always kept the candy dish full for them. Missy, her cat, was special to her and has been adopted by granddaughter Susan. Ellen enjoyed salmon fishing with Vernon, baseball, and playing dominoes, canasta and yahtzee. Crocheting was a favorite hobby. Her favorite color was pink. Ellen loved snow, mountain trips, the ocean, especially trips on the Oregon Coast to Lincoln City and Depoe Bay. A resident of South Tacoma for 54 years, she lovingly referred to her home as the "Clinkingbeard Homestead." Ellen lived over 27 years on her own after Vernon died. She was a strong and independent woman. Viewing will be Monday, February 11, 2008 at Mountain View Funeral Home from 1PM to 9PM. Funeral service will be Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at 1:00 PM in the Garden Chapel at Mountain View. Reception in the Celebration of Life Bldg.
