Elizabeth Weyerhaeuser Meadowcroft's Obituary
Elizabeth (Wiz) Weyerhaeuser Meadowcroft, 73, passed away peacefully on Sunday March 25, 2007 at her home in Lakewood, Washington, surrounded by her family.She was born on April 19, 1933 in Tacoma, Washington to John Philip Weyerhaeuser, Jr. and Helen Walker Weyerhaeuser.Wiz attended Annie Wright Seminary, Ethel Walker School, in Simsbury Connecticut, and graduated in 1951. She attended Mills College and Northwestern University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1955. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.She married William Howarth (Howie) Meadowcroft on March 2, 1957 in Lakewood, Washington and they recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in Palm Springs, California. She is survived by her husband Howie, her brother George Hunt Weyerhaeuser (Wendy), her three daughters Laura Hofberg (Rob), Lisa Politeo (Mike), Anne Henderson (Dave), and two sons Mark Meadowcroft and Dave Meadowcroft (Anna); and 14 grandchildren Kate, David, Sam, Nathan, Spencer, Claire, John, Madeline, Daniel, Brooks, Carson, Blake, Lauren, and Alex. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Frederick Weyerhaeuser, John Philip Weyerhaeuser, III and sister Ann Weyerhaeuser Pascoe.Wiz proudly served on the Board of Directors of The National Wildlife Federation, Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition, National Resources and Wildlife Foundation, Northwest Trek Wildlife Foundation, Director of the Washington chapter of The Nature Conservancy, Charles Wright Academy, and the Weyerhaeuser Family Foundation. She was the first woman appointed Washington State Game Commissioner, by Governor Dan Evans. She served six years and was reappointed by Governor John Spellman and served another six years. She was also a member of Ducks Unlimited, Junior League of Tacoma and The Tacoma Country and Golf Club.Wiz was known for her excellent sense of humor and quick wit. She loved fishing in the San Juans, hunting in Eastern Washington and traveling the world. She also enjoyed playing tennis and hosting bridge parties for her friends. Spending time in the garden brought her so many years of joy. Her family and friends will forever treasure the memory of Wiz in her garden.A celebration of Wiz,'s life will be held in the late spring.
