Elizabeth Snowden's Obituary
Elizabeth Â"BettyÂ" Snowden passed away at home on November 12, 2005 following a brief illness. Betty was born in Aberdeen Washington to Harvey and Anne Burns on September 23, 1923. Her family moved to Bremerton while Betty was in high school. An outdoors enthusiast during high school, she was an avid skier and was named BremertonÂ's 1942 ski queen. Betty enjoyed a long and happy marriage to R. Howell Â"HowieÂ" Snowden. Together, they made their home and raised their four children in Tacoma, Washington. Over the years, Betty was active in the Parkland Garden Club, the Parkland Orthopedic Guild and volunteered for years at Mary Bridge ChildrenÂ's Hospital. She was an avid bridge player, forming many life long friendships with fellow bridge club members. Betty loved following the local collegiate and professional sports teams, particularly the Mariners. Betty considered herself truly fortunate to have traveled the world during her life. She and Howie took two extensive freighter cruises, one across the Pacific to ports of call in the Far East and the second in the Atlantic to the Mediterranean then on to South America. Following HowieÂ's death in 1982 she continued to travel to many interesting destinations. In recent weeks, Betty greatly enjoyed the numerous calls and visits from her friends, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren all of whom live locally. Betty is survived by her four children, twin sons Donald (Arlene) Snowden and Ronald (LoRee) Snowden, daughters Joanne Seymour and Wendy (Jonathan) Hatch; her seven grandchildren, Brent Snowden, Stephanie Braaten, Stacy Houlihan, Derek Snowden, Kristin Seymour, Tyler Hatch and Kelly Hatch; her six great grandchildren, Gage Snowden, Audrey Braaten, Maddie and Molly Houlihan, Zane and Serena Snowden; and her niece Margot Hansen and nephew Phillip Hansen. The family wishes to thank Franciscan Hospice and Visiting Angels caregivers for their compassionate care. A service celebrating BettyÂ's life will be held 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 4, 2005 in the Mountain View Celebration of Life Center. Memorials may be directed to Franciscan Hospice at 2901 Bridgeport Way W., University Place, WA 98466.
