Elizabeth M. (Betty)'s Obituary
Elizabeth M. (Betty) La Furgey, 89Â"So you must have been a beautiful babyÂ"On 10/18/2002, a beautiful mother, grandmother, great grandmother went to heaven to join her beloved Â"JohnnyÂ" in restful peace. Also preceding her in death were her brother Harry Higgins and great-grandson Dominique Parker. She was born August 7, 1913, in Tacoma, WA and graduated from Aquinas Academy in 1931. In 1934, working as the coffee girl for the Temple Theater, she met and fell in love with John La Furgey. On December 18th 1934 they were married and celebrated 62 years of happiness together prior to her losing him to cancer in Oct. of 1996. She was a terrific, loving, energetic, woman who devoted herself to her husband and her family. She was the most meticulous of house keepers and every year on their anniversary her husband, John, put a happy ad in the Peninsula Gateway, saying Â"And after all these years, she still does windows.Â" She will be missed by all who knew her, especially by her daughter and son-in-law, Joani and Jim Hommel, her four granddaughters, Melanie, Deanne, Michelle, Deborah, their families, Jill, Stephen, Thomas, Corey, Emma, Eli, La Quisha and Nathaniel, her brother Leonard Higgins and family and the surviving family of Harry Higgins. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude for the loving care and support received from the staff at Cottesmore Life Care Center in Gig Harbor. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 30, 2002 at Cottesmore Life Care Center.
