Elizabeth Gallagher's Obituary
Elizabeth Robina Moore Gallagher, n e McArthur, passed away after a short and difficult illness on Tuesday, February 16th, 2010, at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Kenneth R. Gallagher, (RCAF). They had a long and enduring marriage. Dear mother of Bob, Bruce Gallagher and Jennifer Shaffer. She will be missed by her grandchildren, Connor, Ken Gallagher and Jessica Shaffer. She will also be greatly missed by family, friends and caregivers. She served with her career military husband, Ken, from 1943 to 1971, as the wife of a Telecommunications Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force, with their final posting in McChord Air Force Base (NORAD), where they ultimately retired. She arrived in Lakewood, Washington in 1966; and immediately found a place she could finally call her own. Realizing the opportunities presented in this posting, she attended Oxford University and received her Bachelor's degree from Pacific Lutheran University, graduating magna cum laud. She taught English and Drama at Clover Park High School and was librarian at Hudtloff Middle School. She joined St. Mary's Episcopal Church of Lakewood, Washington in 1966; singing in the choir until 2008, was active in their MOMP's group, and many other organizations associated with the church over the years. She was an active member of the Writers Guild of Puget Sound and the Lakewood Historical Society. She enjoyed travelling, entertaining, writing novels and helping those in need. She supported the arts, attending plays at Lakewood Playhouse and Tacoma Little Theater. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. She is now again at peace alongside her beloved husband, Ken. We are blessed and honored to have her as a mother. Services will be held at 2pm 26th February 2010 at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 10630 Gravelly Lake Dr. SW., Lakewood, WA 98499. A reception will follow in the church hall. The family requests any memorial gifts be made to the St. Mary's Choir or the Salvation Army of Lakewood, Washington.
