Elijah Josephus Granberry's Obituary
Elijah Josephus (Joe) Granberry of Tacoma, Washington passed away Sunday morning, October 31, 2010 at Franciscan Hospice. Joe was born on March 4, 1935 to Aaron Anderson and Corine Leslie Granberry in Greenwood, Florida. He was seventeen when he moved to Miami, Florida.
Joe was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1962 and was honorably discharged in 1964. In 1968 he moved to Tacoma, Washington to help take care of his sister, Willie Mae Horne. In April of 1968 he met his wife Mearlyn Faison in Miami, FL. Joe and Mearlyn was married on October 11, 1969 in Tacoma. They were blessed with one son, Addison J. Granberry.
He worked at Elf Atochem North America of Tacoma as a cell operator for 30 years and retired in 1997. After retiring he continued to work part time for Avis Rental Car Company.
Joe enjoyed playing pinochle with friends and family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his granddaughters. They always brought a smile to his face no matter what the occasion. Family was important to him. He always stayed connected by traveling frequently to family reunions across the country.
Joe is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Mearlyn, a son, Addison, and two granddaughters, Adaiya and Violet, all of Tacoma, Washington. He is also survived by two brothers, Aaron Granberry III (Marianna, FL), John Howard Granberry (Tacoma, WA), a sister, Delores Granberry (Plant City, FL) and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
His laugh, smile and joking will be surely missed.
