Eleanor Taylor's Obituary
Eleanor Jane Taylor
September 19, 1915-January 4, 2013
Our beloved mother passed away peacefully with her children at her side. All who knew her were blessed by her warm heart and kind disposition. She always had a positive attitude throughout her 97 years on earth. She is now with our Lord and the angels. She will always be remembered by all who knew her. We are better for having known her as our mother and friend.
Eleanor Jane Taylor was born at Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, WA on September 19, 1915. She was the daughter of Dr. Josiah Davies and Elvena Davies. She joined her older sister Margaret. Later her beloved younger brother, Paul, was born. Eleanor adored her older sister Margaret who was always her role model and best friend. The sisters enjoyed ballet and tap dancing lessons, as well as playing the piano. Eleanor's favorite piece was Clare de Lune. Eleanor took etiquette lessons for young ladies and gentlemen where she learned to ballroom dance during her early teenage years.
The Davies family lived on Union Avenue in north Tacoma. They also had a summer home on Steilacoom Lake. Eleanor especially enjoyed playing tennis with her sister. Eleanor graduated from Stadium High School. During high school she played the saxophone in the band, helped found Triple S, an academic club, at Stadium and was a member of the Club of Hearts. Eleanor attended the College of Puget Sound (now U.P.S.) and transferred to the University of Washington. While attending U.W. she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Eleanor married Thomas G. Taylor who founded the independent insurance agency Thomas G. Taylor Insurance Agency in 1937. They enjoyed a long and happy marriage. Eleanor and Tom were devoted to one another. Eleanor enjoyed being a full time mother of three children, Tom, Tim and Janie. She was active in her bridge club, a member of a garden club and orthopedic guild. She helped found the Stardust Dance Club in Tacoma with friends from the Club of Hearts. Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, her sister and brother, her husband Tom, and son Timothy. She is survived by son Tom (wife Jackie) granddaughter Mimi Knodel (husband Ben, children Kassie and Blake) of Gig Harbor, daughter Janie Corl (husband Rob, of Albany Oregon, children Robyn Corl, of Seattle, Beth Silva (husband Schuyler) of Portland, Oregon and Renee Opalane, granddaughter from Eugene, Oregon.
We wish to thank the staff at Merrill Gardens of Gig Harbor where Eleanor enjoyed living for over two years. We appreciate more than we can express the loving care our mother received by Tiffany and her wonderful staff at her Family First Home in Gig Harbor. Words alone cannot convey how outstanding everyone has been at the Family First organization. We will never forget how well our mother was looked after.
