Eleanor Paulson's Obituary
Eleanor was born in Henning, Minnesota, fourth in a family of 6 children of Lutheran Pastor Rev. John Paulson and his wife Louise. She graduated from high school in Enumclaw, WA and the family moved to Newman Grove, Nebraska shortly after. She attended Wayne State University in Nebraska and took courses looking to be a teacher, but decided not to enter that field. This was in the middle of the Great Depression and there were no jobs available in the small town of Newman Grove.
Eleanor then went to St. Paul, MN and worked as church secretary in a large church. When war broke out, she was very concerned and decided to move back to her family, which had returned to Enumclaw, WA. She worked in the office of Boeing-Renton and at the end of the war, applied for work in the Foreign Service division of the State Dept. This began a new career which lasted over 20 years. She had very responsible assignments in the US embassies in Brazil, Yugoslavia, India, United Nations in New York, Norway, New Zealand and Canada. She advanced to the position of consulate general before her retirement. She belonged to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and a number of professional organizations in connection with her work.
Eleanor is survived by a brother Harvey of Issaquah, WA and nephews James and John Paulson, Gary Paulson, Gerald and john Loney and Brent Olsen.
Family services will be held at Mountain View Memorial Park in Tacoma, WA. She made many friends at Brighton Gardens Retirement Community in Bellevue and will be missed.
