Eleanor Marie Larson's Obituary
Eleanor Marie (Ferris) Larson died on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community, Tacoma, Washington.
Eleanor was born in Sidney, Montana, September 4, 1923 to Arnold Douglas Ferris, Sr. and Mary Maude (Staffanson) Ferris, at which time she joined her sister, Ethel Garnet (Ferris) Benson, and her brother Arnold Douglas Ferris, Jr. She graduated in 1941 from Sidney High School.
She married her high school sweetheart, Ivan Allen Larson on February 16, 1946 in Glendive, Montana. Ivan predeceased her in February 2015. They had two children, Ronald (Linda) and Janice (Gary Munson). She is survived by her two children and their spouses; three grandchildren and their spouses: Wendy (Larson) Widis (Bill), Joel Larson (Raissa), and Adam Munson (Lindsay); four great-grandchildren (Jordan and Ellie Widis, and Isaac and Micah Larson); her sister-in-law Bernadine Larson; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Eleanor was active in Lutheran Churches throughout her life, teaching Sunday school and often working as the church secretary. She had a strong faith showing it in many ways. She was always sending letters, cards and e-mails to friends and family throughout her life on their birthday, anniversary or just to offer greetings and to stay in touch.
Eleanor worked throughout her life as a bank teller (once enduring an armed robbery), telephone operator, secretary at various Lutheran churches, and various positions at Panther Lake Elementary in Kent, WA, where she ultimately retired as head secretary in 1985.
Eleanor and her husband, Ivan, lived in various cities throughout their lives, and in retirement, they purchased a motor home and drove across the United States several times visiting friends and family. In 1995 they moved to Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community where they lived until their passing in 2015. .
Eleanor enjoyed playing golf, cards and dominos; and she loved cats.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, remembrances/donations be made to the Tacoma Lutheran Retirement Community Foundation to honor Eleanor’s wishes.
