Eleanor M. Cooper's Obituary
Eleanor Cooper, Puyallup, WA passed peacefully in her sleep following her 94th birthday. Eleanor grew up in Aberdeen, SD, attended Catholic grade school, and graduated from Aberdeen HS in 1941. Her parents, Anton and Gertrude Meyers, who were German immigrants from Russia instilled in her a warm loving and spunky personality.
After graduation, she moved to Washington DC and eventually decided to join the Navy. She was living in San Francisco when WWII ended & with the help of the GI Bill went on to become a nurse. Once again, she heard of jobs in a new locale, Washington State--working for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, at their hospital in Tacoma, WA. She made many new friends, including one who set up her up on a blind date for St. Patrick’s Day with a man named Jim whom she married in 1952. Jim & Eleanor were married for 56 years before Jim passed.
They had four children & six grandchildren: Steve, wife Michelle (Renton), Margaret (Puyallup), Anne (Ken Mersereau) (Portland) and Mary (Karl Nelson) (Issaquah), and lived on South Hill near Roger’s High School for 50 years. Eleanor and Jim loved to travel together and delighted in their grandchildren (Ariel, Grant, Katie, Claire, Cecilia, Andrea).
A Memorial Mass will be held for Eleanor at Holy Disciples Parish on Thursday, June 8, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Eleanor’s beloved charity St. Francis House of Puyallup.
