My greatest memories of Wina are her hugs. They were so soft and all encompassing- and always with the smell of her perfume. Those hugs made me feel comforted, safe and home - like a warm shelter in a cold storm. The feeling of those soft and scented hugs will remain with me always. She was my mother figure for the last 30 years - since my own mother passed. I learned so much from her - by far the greatest thing was the example she set on how to be a mother. I had so much to learn and just watching her was truly my source of being an unconditionally loving mother. I have so much gratitude for the silent but unwavering example she set as a fantastic mother but also as a loving grandparent and often times care giver to my sons. There is a great empty spot created in not only my but my sons’ lives with her passing but I know we all still feel her warm embrace and loving presence around us even still.
Thank you for everything, Wina. You are truly loved and missed.
I so admire this lady, I felt an unbelievable connection to her. She and I were born on the same day and also had 5 boys. She was my reassurance that I could do this, I could make it through all the challenges life three at me. She was a light in my life that I never expected to be in contact with was it not for Mailani Makainai. I will miss her dearly and my love and aloha goes out to her family. Ke aloha no ....😍
Wina was a wonderful woman who shared her wit and wisdom with anyone and everyone she welcomed into her circle of family and friends. She leaves a lasting legacy imprinted on every heart she ever touched. May you reap the rewards of your gracious giving soul and remain reunited with those who have gone before you. In an age where we casually ask, "How's it going?" as we pass each other by, Wina was a rare exception. She wasn't satisfied with light conversation. "Come sit with me" was more her style. Her calm, quiet manner drew you in and the rest of the world just faded away for awhile. She asked profound questions, like "'How are you---really?' or, 'How does that make you feel?'" And before you knew it, you had shared thoughts you didn't even know you had, from places deep within. She intently listened and guided, comforted and assured you. She offered calm, rational advice that was instinctive to her nature. She could draw your humanity right out of you for the two of you to see...things that maybe only God knows about you. What a wonderful confidante. Wina's specialty in life was people. She loved everyone, especially her family. She was a one-of-a-kind, remarkable human being who was loved in return by all. Rest in peace, dear, sweet lady. Until we meet again.
A beautiful friend Edwina was to our family. Shortly after Earl and Edwina arrived here from Hi. Our wonderful neighbors Jim and Margie introduced us. It was the beginning of a long loving relationship. George and Early became business partners and brothers for life. Which automatically made Edwina our sister-in-law. She did the books for the business. "Right on the penny" Among all that, we knew her character pretty well. She was devoted to her family. Which has instilled the same in them and no doubt will carry on through their generations. We are saddened by her loss and to her family.
Rest peacefully in God's hands.
I have memories with Edwina that go back over 45 years. As a good friend of Dorothy and Bob Stumpf for even longer than 45 years my family was introduced to Dorothy's brother Earl, wife Edwina and all 5 boys when they first made the move here from Hawaii. This move was quite a transition for Edwina leaving the island where she was born and raised in along with all her loving family. A deep friendship developed that has continued to this day. The shared family occasions are far too many to list, their 5 boys interacted with my 4 children all the years that they were growing up. I grieved when Earl passed and was so grateful that my support for her continued for me when I endured a divorce after 33 years. She was a special dear friend, absolutely devoted and loving to her children and grandchildren and her relatives in Hawaii. She will always have a special place in my heart!!!! Pi'ilani Edwina Hall was born in Honolulu, HI on November 30th 1939 to William AK Hall II and Maybelle Kapuna Paresa Hall. She grew up in Aiea, graduated from Rosevelt High School in 1957 and attended the University of Hawaii. She met and married Earl Maijala and had 5 sons while living in Makakilo, HI. In the Fall of 1975 they relocated to Earl's hometown of Tacoma, WA and continued to raise their family in University Place. Edwina returned to work after the boys were raised, first in a boutique woman's clothing store then moved on to H&R Block for many years. Edwina's life was all about family, and together with her husband Earl, raised their sons and grandchildren with the same beliefs. Edwina was well respected by all and was known to be a mother figure to many nieces and nephews, as well as the kids close friends. She had multiple health issues in recent months and passed away on the night of her 81st Birthday.
Edwina was preceded in death by her husband Earl Maijala Sr, her parents William and Maybelle Hall, sister Maria Johnson and brothers William, Charles, Antone, Mark and Vance. She is survived by her sons Earl L. Maijala jr.(Jennifer), Louis Maijala, Doug Maijala(Jennifer), Dean Maijala, Theron Maijala (Dessie), grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister Poliala Katschman, brother Frederick Hall, nieces and nephews.
