I was in the office with an eye injury a few months ago, and it was on a Friday. He was so caring and concerned that he gave me his home phone number in case I had any problems over the weekend. Such a wonderful man and such a loss.

Jeanne and I are truly saddened by the loss of a good friend and fellow VOSHer. We traveled the world together and less than a month ago we were working side by side in Mexico. His warm, positive and friendly attitude will be remembered for a long time. I will also miss my ski buddy and his "vintage skis" for which he endured many jokes but he still skied better than most of us.

A man literally vested in caring for his fellow man….
I met Ed and Connie at WSU when I transferred as a Junior in the fall of 1974. Ed and I lived one door down from each other in the Stimson Hall Dormitory. We became fast friends. It was clearly obvious that Ed was smitten with the lovely Connie Hayden, and that they would one day marry and build a beautiful life together. I always admired Ed for his friendliness, intelligence, boyish good looks, cheerfulness, generosity, and optimism. I loved hearing Ed telling funny stories almost as much as hearing his heart warming laughter. One charming note about Ed was that he loved wearing vests, for almost any and all occasions. Vested PJ tops?
Ed, your friendship and laughter will be missed, but the memories will endure.
Our condolences to Connie, Diana, David, and family.

Always seemed to be first to get his camera ready for any family events -- such a nice guy! ..And so adept at sneaking chocolates and cookies off the dessert tray when no one was looking...
Ed was unforgettable! Knowing him as a colleague and friend since the early 80's brings back many memories of mostly optometry meetings, education and other activities. He was uniformly good natured and always interested in talking about practices and families. It is unbelievable that we won't see him again on this earth...
Our deep condolences to Connie and the entire family,

I know Dr Worthen is looking at all his family and friends with the pure love he has that will never cease. That giggle of his rings in my ears and memory. I will miss hearing it and his stories of his travels. I remember when he told me about coming upon an area of beautiful butterflies on a trip to Central America. He made it so real....I can't still see it in my mind's eye.
I will miss you and yet know that you will never leave us.
Until we meet again, with so much gratitude,
Debbie Smith
Dr. Worthen was an excellent and compassionate doctor. We shared the care of patients over the past 20 years. He will be deeply missed by me and all of his patients.
