Ed was the park ranger who helped facilitate and organize my wedding at Kitsap Memorial State Park. He was an incredible man to have a part of that journey...he was and is a man who will continue to change the world. Thank you Ed.##imported-begin##Sarah Sweeny##imported-end##
Rest in Peace, Ranger Ed. Thank you for all you taught me and all you helped me learn. Thank you for showing me the beauty of conservation. Thank you for always being good to me and my volunteer crews, and thank you for always giving us work to do, and always having something interesting to talk about. Thank you for the wisdom you showed me, in the time you took to help me along the trail to Eagle Scout. I will never forget what you told me. I will never forget that, while so many rangers simply do their job, you went above and beyond, and were always the friendly ranger down the road we all knew in our dreams of the Real America. I will never stop using the skills you taught me, nor remembering the memories you made possible. I will keep the last promise I made to you- I will build trails all across this country, and I will, to the best of my abilities, live conservation as a way of life. And I will never drink and drive. I will fight to keep the senseless bloodshed caused thereby a rarity, not a statistic. You didn't have to die. I hope I will see you in heaven someday, and thank you for letting me drive the Gator. -Luke##imported-begin##Luke Phillips##imported-end##
Edna and Keith, Ed sounds like a remarkable man, and I know that he will be missed by many. Let us all hope that, in his honor, people will think of Ed, before driving a vehicle while impaired.
My heart and thoughts are with you both, and the family.##imported-begin##charleah (chuckie) Hattrick Couckuyt##imported-end##
Dear Johanson Family, It was with great sadness that I learned of Eddie's tragic accident. I'm a former Seabeck Elementary teacher and have been able to follow Ed's career as a park ranger. He's one of the outstanding former students that I've made it important to track. Upon my leaving Seabeck Elem. Eddie presented a drawing of me as an aged P.E. teacher holding a basketball. I've always treasured and kept this drawing. I knew it was quality as my Dad was a professional caliber cartoonist. My deepest sympathy and prayer go out to you. Rest in peace Edward. Very Sincerely, Ben Pedersen##imported-begin##Ben Pedersen##imported-end##

"Taken Too Soon"
Our Sincere Sympathy goes out to Edward's family and Leigh Kessell.
We watched the uncut video of the Memorial Service. Very fitting for Ed as he was much loved and respected.
You all have much to do now. We know Brandon and Nicholas will be well looked after. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
(Janice Hale Johanson is our niece.)

I treasure the memories I have of working with Ed well over a dozen years ago. His presence was a large part of what made working at the park a great learning experience. I am sorry I cannot attend the memorial today, but I do wish to send my deepest condolences. Ed, I am happy I had the chance of crossing paths with you in this life. Take care always.##imported-begin##Robert Bale##imported-end##
My name is Heidi Brandt - used to be Heidi Harless. When I was a young girl, I used to play with Eddie and his brother Raymond when I visited my grandparents, Al & Frances Hamro, on Bainbridge. I have such fond memories of Eddie & Raymond and playing in his grandpa's old boat in the pasture. We had fun with Boots and OJ, going to the beach, and riding wagons down the hill. Please accept my condolences and know I will be praying for your family.##imported-begin##Heidi Brandt##imported-end##
