SFC Edward W. Carter, U.S Army Retired's Obituary
Edward W. Carter, of Tacoma, WA, passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023. He was born in Niagara Falls, New York, on January 26, 1957 and was the son of the late Pierce Butler Carter Sr. and Alice Irene Carter. He is predeceased by three sisters Elizabeth Irene Carter, Mary Jacqueline Briggs, and Shirley Ann Price. He is the youngest of 8 children.
Retired as Sergeant First Class CARTER, Edward served in the United States Army for 27 years. Initially, enlisted in Niagara Falls, New York, June 1978 with the US National Guard, retiring in Tacoma, Washington, March 2001: NG-Army Reserved. Sergeant First Class Carter strived for excellence in the US Army National Guard receiving many decorations and state awards.
In conjunction with his military career, he served 9 years for the Tacoma School District in the Transportation Department. He also worked at Kaiser Permanente for 22 years in a supervisory position in Environmental Services. Edward was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, motorcycling, family gatherings, and he took a lot of pride in his culinary skills. Additionally, he was a “master” chess player.
Edward is survived by his daughter Cashauna M. Sanders (Leander), Puyallup, WA, and grandchildren Christopher J. Haynes, and Kaylah M. Haynes, Puyallup, WA. He is survived by his sister Barbara J. Lane, Tacoma, WA, brothers Pierce B. Carter Jr. (Jackie), Chester, VA, Robert Carter, Tacoma, WA and Samuel M. Carter, Tacoma, WA, and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him.
A private memorial service for the family is scheduled Tuesday June 6 at 11 AM in the Garden Chapel at Mount View Funeral Home. A public walk-through to follow at Noon.
