Edna Jacobsen's Obituary
On Friday, June 2, 2023, just shy of her 94th birthday, Edna Faaborg Jacobsen joined her daughter, Connie, and all those loved ones who had gone before her.
Edna was dearly loved by many, especially the love of her life, Richard (Dick) Jacobsen. They had just celebrated their 75th Wedding Anniversary surrounded by those who loved her the most, her family! Family meant everything to Edna, and she was happiest when spending time with them.
Edna grew up in a loving family on a farm outside Kimballton, Iowa. She was proud of her Danish heritage and shared many special Danish traditions with her family including dancing around the Christmas tree on Christmas Eve and reciting, in Danish, the Danish Meal Blessing. Edna had many fond, happy memories of her childhood. She would reminisce about working in the fields with her dad and brothers, helping her mom in her garden (thus grew her love for flowers and gardening), attending a one room schoolhouse, going to Danish School, and sleigh riding on the snowy hills of their farm during cold Iowa winters.
Edna and Dick “DANCED” through life together! They were an amazing team and spent every day working side by side. Edna ran their office for over 40 years. Together, they enjoyed many adventures. They travelled to Hawaii, Denmark, France, and went on Alaskan, Caribbean, and Panama Canal cruises. They visited relatives and friends in Iowa and attended Navy Reunions across the country. Many enjoyable weekends were spent at the Roslyn house or at their beach home in Gig Harbor.
Edna was an incredible Wife, Mother, Grandma, Great-Grandma, Sister, Aunt, and Friend to all. Her smile was as beautiful as she was inside and out. She was a thoughtful, loving, generous person. Some of her favorite days were spent in the kitchen, with her grandkids by her side, baking her famous chocolate chip cookies, yummy banana bread and during Christmas…her holiday spritz cookies! Rocking her grandbabies and great grandbabies was her passion. She would hold a baby in her arms and rock until they both fell asleep. If you needed guidance, a listening ear, or a helping hand, Edna was always there for you. Her legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, and beyond, as she has shown them what it is to love with all your heart.
Edna will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 75 years, Dick; children, Cindy (Steve), Steve (Tina); grandchildren, Ryan (Teri), Kari (Ryan), Chad, Jonathan, Brett (Ashley), Jordan (Lauren), Joel (Brittany); great grandchildren, Raiden, Keeva, Mauve, Runa, Smith, Kampbell; brother, Otto, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Edna’s Celebration of Life will take place on Wednesday, June 28, at 2pm, in the Aspen Chapel at Mountain View Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd. SW, Lakewood, WA 98499.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating, in Edna’s name, to the Museum of Danish America 2212 Washington St., Elk Horn, IA 51531.
