Edith N. Skog's Obituary
Our beloved Edith Skog joined Clarence, her husband of 59 years, infant son Jack, parents and all 8 siblings in the arms of her Lord on April 19, 2005. Her gracious and generous spirit of 94 years inspired her family, sons James A. (Judy) and Dennis A.; grandchildren Melinda McCourt (Wayne) and Christopher J. (Tammy).She greeted close family and friends in her final hours and extended cheerful gratitude for their visits before engaging in final prayers with her pastor, Rev. Kathy Yackey. She thanked her nurses for their care.Edith was the fourth child born to William Henry and Amy Maud Niccolls on August 29, 1910 in Rosetown, Saskatchewan. Her pride in Canadian heritage, British homesteading parents and beloved siblings shone through stories of farm life and nine years teaching in prairie schools.Her sisterÂ's matchmaking brought Clarence and Edith to marriage in Wallace, Idaho on December 25, 1939.After JimÂ's birth the family moved to the Midland area, south of Tacoma. As the family grew, Edith served as a Scouting den mother, active PTA member, Democratic Party volunteer, and a Sunday school teacher.Franklin Pierce Schools recruited her during a teacher shortage under an emergency certification until she completed her Canadian normal school education by earning a bachelorÂ's degree in elementary education at Pacific Lutheran University. After many years of teaching grade 2, she transferred to the developing special education program and earned her Masters of Education in 1972 from University of Puget Sound.Edith and Clarence spent retirement years roving the U.S. and Canada in their motor home and traveling to nearly every continent.She served as a member of Calvary United Methodist Church and Summit United Methodist Church in addition to the Dr. Grenley Orthopedic Guild and FISH Food Bank.Memorial services will be at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 30 at Summit United Methodist Church, 5316 104th St. E., (corner of 104th St. and Canyon Rd.), Tacoma. Donations to the FISH Food Bank of Pierce County, P.O. Box 99847, Lakewood, WA 98499 can be made in lieu of flowers.
