Edith M. Bowers' Obituary
EDITH M. BOWERS
EDITH M. BOWERS Feb. 17, 1915 to July 7, 2012 My mother has found it time to join the rest of the family and many wonderful friend for a grand reunion. This is not a portion of the family. This is all family both on my mothers and fathers side. With one exception... me.
Mrs. Bowers was born in Hindenburg, Germany. She spent most of her early years in Dresden. Mrs. Bowers survived a time of great political unrest, war, depression, poverty and human loss. Not knowing at the time, Mrs. Bowers would also be living a century that took her from horse drawn carriages to incredible technology. Because of the unrest in the eastern section of Europe, my mother and family moved west to Frankfurt, Germany. It was in Frankfurt that my mother met Master Sargeant John L. Bowers and a beautiful love story happened.
In 1945 my mother and father married. Her son was born two years later and at the same time my father got his orders to return to the United States. Mrs. Bowers lived in many states in the Union and had to learn English quickly, as her husband was sent to Korea for three years.
During the 50's she was a member of many organizations. PTA, BSA den mother, Red Cross, International club and many others.
In 1959 the family returned to Germany. This was a wonderful time for my mother as she saw many of her friends and relatives for the first time in 12 years. It is also the time that Mrs. Bowers began working for Army Air Force Exchange System. This was the beginning of a career that would span 34 years total.
Returning to the United States in 1964, the family made Lakewood their home. My mother returned to work with AAFES at Ft. Lewis in 1966. When she had the time between family and work she could be found out and about in the yard gardening. Her beautiful front yard was admired by many and it is a fact that she was out in her yard with a pick in her hands at the age of 92. Mrs. Bowers' wonderful and delicious baking was also known to many.
My mother was as bright as a thirty-year old, but that wonderful old body was worn out. She leaves behind only her son, John Klaus Bowers, and wife, Sue (Pun T.) Bowers. Her son will take care of her wants and wishes and the front yard too.
A brief private memorial was held on Thursday 7/12 at Mt. View Memorial Park. If you wish, potted flowers or small flower arrangements may be sent or taken in the coming days to Mt. View, 4100 Steilacoom Blvd., 98499.
Special thanks to all her wonderful friends over the years for your caring, love, and kindness, especially over the last year. DANKE UND AUFWIEDERSEIN, ALLE.
