Edith E. Hurlbut's Obituary
Edith Hurlbut "Edie the Hat Lady". Edith Esther Wilkins was born July 3, 1917 in Pierre, SD. The oldest daughter of six children, she passed away May 21, 2008. The family moved to Ellensburg, WA in 1923. Here she graduated from high school with the class of 1934. Later that year she married her childhood sweetheart. They had two daughters: Judy and Sandy. They later divorced. In 1949 she married Martin Slade. They had two sons, Monty and John. The family moved to Fife in 1952 and Edie has resided in the Pierce County area ever since. She and Marty later divorced. In 1988 she met and married Roy Hurlbut. Roy passed away in 1990. Since that time she has enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, socializing and playing cards. She was the life of every party and a friend to all. She is survived by her children: Judy (Ike) Ellis, Sandy Curran, Monty (Jennifer) Slade and John (Lela) Slade, 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grand children and 3 sisters, Doris, Shirley and Carol. Services will be held Saturday, May 31, 2008 at 2PM at the Mountain View Funeral Home, Celebration of Life Center, Aspen Chapel. A reception will follow.
