"The memories that a father leaves will be cherished in our hearts forever"
Edgardo C. Franco, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, at his home in Spanaway, Washington, surrounded by his loving family. He was 87 years old.
Born on August 27, 1938, in Angeles Pampanga, Philippines, to Magdalena C. Franco and Jose Franco, Edgardo came into the world during uncertain times. His father, Jose, gave his life serving during World War II when Edgardo was just three years old. What could have broken a child instead forged in him a resilience, a lightness of spirit, and an unshakeable determination to fill the world around him with love — and laughter.
In his youth, Edgardo found his calling on the open sea. As a merchant marine, he sailed to ports across the world, collecting not only stamps on his passport but flavors, friendships, and stories that would last a lifetime. He approached every new destination with an open heart and a voracious appetite — for culture, for connection, and especially for food. Edgardo was a true connoisseur of cuisine, capable of cooking just about anything, and happiest when feeding the people he loved.
But as wide as the world was, nothing called him home like his family. Edgardo was a provider in every sense of the word — not only in the material care he worked tirelessly to offer, but in the warmth, humor, and steadfast presence he gave to those he cherished most. He was a jokester at heart, a man who refused to take life too seriously, and who had an extraordinary gift for turning tension into laughter, and strangers into friends.
In his later years, Edgardo tended his garden with the same care and patience he gave to everything he loved. He found peace in his faith, and in a profound and joyful step, he was baptized into the Christian church — a testament to the spiritual journey that quietly guided his final chapter.
Edgardo is survived by his three children: Allan Franco, Maria Franco, and Dennis Franco; six grandchildren: Vanessa, Krystal, Bryan, Alonzo, Braiden, and the late Derryck; five great-grandchildren: Mikayla, Elliana, Emma, Kaia, and Emrys; his beloved sister Myrna; and a vast and loving extended family that spans generations and continents.
He was preceded in death by his grandchild Derryck, his parents, and his siblings Juanita, Jaime, Telesforo, Rosalie, Rodrigo, and Danilo.
Edgardo Franco lived 87 years with an open hand and a full heart. He gave everything he had to the people he loved — and anyone lucky enough to have sat at his table, heard his laugh, or watched him tend his garden knows exactly what a gift that was.
John 11: “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though they die, yet shall they live.”
