Durland "Curly" Henry Roemer's Obituary
Nov. 29, 1928 - Oct. 13, 2018
Durland Roemer passed away suddenly on October 13, 2018 at 89 years of age.
Born on November 29, 1928 to parents George H. Roemer and Esther Marie (Anderson) Roemer, in Windom, MN, he was the 13th of 14 children. Several years after the death of his father, Durland and his mother moved to Tacoma, WA. With WWII underway, Durland quit school in the 7th grade in order to help with the household finances. He went on to receive his GED at the age of 55. Durland provided for his family throughout his employment years as a grocer while working for Piggly-Wiggly, Safeway and Food King.
Durland married Dorothy Lorrain Flaherty on July 16, 1948 and during their 33 years of marriage they had 6 children. He is survived by all of his children: Rodney (Cheryl), Stephan (Jocelyn), Marilyn (John) Davidson, Rose (Paul) Hansen, Douglas, and Gail (Jeff) Smolar, along with his 11 grandchildren: Craig, Jamie, Phillip, Timothy, Anna, Jay, Brant, Adin, Katie, Zachary and Hunter, as well as his 2 great grandsons: Riley and Andrew. Durland was preceded in death by his parents and all of his siblings.
As a young man, Durland was an avid bowler, but found his true joy during his many years as a member of the Brookdale Golf Club. He was a lifetime member of the Elks, and also a member of the Eagles. He often joined a regular group of friends for poker nights or watching sporting events, and took great pleasure rooting for his beloved Seattle Mariners as well as the Seattle Seahawks.
Always with a welcoming smile on his face, and a joke to tell, one of the things Durland enjoyed the most was making new friends. He will be greatly missed and will remain forever in the hearts of those friends and of his loving family.
