Douglas E. Wilson's Obituary
Douglas Eugene Wilson Doug, born June 30, 1939 in Tacoma, passed away peacefully at home December 26, 2014. Doug was loving, caring and full of life. He graduated Clover Park High School and spent a short time in the Army Reserves before attending Clover Park Technical School, where he earned a certificate in carpentry. He began his construction career where he met his future wife, Carole, while building her home. In 1971 he acquired "A Chimney Company," which specialized in building, repairing, and cleaning chimneys. He managed this company with his wife for 25 years. In 1987 he was injured and retrained as a building inspector for the city of Steilacoom and then became a plan reviewer for Pierce County. He retired in 2011, after 23 years of dedicated service to Pierce County, at the age of 73. He spent the remainder of his years volunteering at American Lake Veterans Golf Course, where he enjoyed many golf games. Doug loved hunting and fishing, building his family cabin at Lake Cushman, and traveling (especially cruising with family where he played cards and too many games of bingo to even count). He loved playing the lottery and entering every raffle possible (he donated anything for a good cause). Luck was always on his side and he had many big winnings. Doug is survived by his wife, Carole, of 46 years, his son Dean Wilson, son-in-law Mike Bryant, daughters Sheri Bryant, Lauren Miller (Bob), and Reisha Swindahl (Darrin), 14 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Doug was preceded in death by his parents Don (2004) and Maxine (2013), and his daughter Debbie Maney (1996).
A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. January 4, 2015 at Tacoma Firefighters Union Hall, 1109 S 50th Street. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The American Lake Veteran's Golf Course.Rea
