Douglas E. Swenson's Obituary
Douglas Erick Swenson, 77 of Tacoma, Washington passed away at Hospice House, August 23, 2018. He was born September 29, 1940 to the late Irene Martin and Carl Swenson in Tacoma. He attended University School in Victoria B.C. for 3 years, then returned to Tacoma and graduated from Wilson High School. Doug was a Navy Veteran and after his discharge he worked for the Dept. of Corrections, retiring in 2001.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years Shirley; son Chris (Mia) Swenson of Guam; daughter Tara (Sander) Groothuis of Bainbridge Island; grandchildren Sean and Emma Swenson, Matthew and Lars Groothuis and a host of nieces of nephews. He is preceded in death by a sister Jeanette and brother Richard.
Doug loved the outdoors, boating, fishing, traveling and being with his family and friends.
A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church by the Narrows at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018.
