Douglas C. Stone's Obituary
Douglas Charles Stone was born June 20, 1947 to Charles Chester Stone and Maxine Rachelle Stone (Maiden Name “Slater” then last name “Hall”). He passed away suddenly on January 6, 2021. He is survived by sister Sherrie Hannem, Nephew & Niece Jeff(Karolyn) Hannem, Lori(Chuck) Manning, Great Nephews & Nieces Mathew(Robyn) Hannem Landers, Spencer(Brittany) Manning, Alicia Hannem, Miranda Manning and great-great nephew Micah Allen-Hannem. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Doug worked briefly at the old Puget Sound Hospital, the Smelter and spent 20 years working at the Antique Sandwich Shop in Ruston. He thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere, folk music and spending time with the people from Salmon Beach. Doug lived for many years in an apartment at the gateway of Pt. Defiance. One of Doug’s favorite adventures, was walking to lighthouse from Owen’s Beach at low tide, which Doug called the “Point of the Point” at Pt. Defiance Park.
He had a deep profound joy for parks on the Puget Sound waterways, ocean, nature and the many forest areas throughout the state. The beauty of nature is free to all of us if we just take the time. Doug liked adventures and knew how to create them wherever we are in that moment.
Doug loved Dogs, he would tell us Dog is God spelled backwards and that we could learn a lot about God from the love that our dogs share back with us. Doug viewed life in simple terms, this in no way means he was a simple person. Doug had the ability to see past the material world and see the value of a person by what they give back to the world from their heart. Doug often would look at life from a different point of view and would accept others by seeing the gifts they have. Doug’s example of going to a quiet place to reflect, to meditate, and to pray is something we all can learn from.
Doug’s greatest gifts were how to live life in every moment, watching the tide, the water, the waves, a bird, a seal, a sand crab, being still, listening, giving encouraging words, feeling the wind on your face, smelling the scent of the forest, honoring others feelings, feeling one’s breath in the beauty of nature, and knowing the value of friendship and love. Peace and happiness are a choice, he chose them as part of Doug- the man, friend, uncle, brother, son and playful spirit he IS!
We were blessed to have Doug in our lives!
