Douglas Gene Miller's Obituary
Douglas G. Miller Born 10/14/1936 at St.
Joseph's Hospital in Tacoma to Fred and
Mabel Miller; died 11/3/2016 at St. Joseph's
Hospital. We moved to Elbe in 1947 and
that is where he was raised. He went to
Eatonville High School and graduated in
1954. He went to work in the woods for
Silvercreek logging company (Tom
Murray). He joined the National Guard
when still in high school. In 1961 the
National Guard offered him a full-time job
with the 144th battalion and he took it and
was there for 31 years as a Marine Engineer.
In 1988 he went to Mississippi and sailed
the LSV as Chief Engineer back to Tacoma.
He retired from full-time in 1993 and retired
from the weekend in 1995 after serving 42
years. In 1959 he married S. Marie Cates and
together they raised 3 children, Lynn
(Janine), Shirley (John-deceased), Fred, 9
grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
