Dorothy Jean Schumacher's Obituary
Dorothy Jean (Haines) Schumacher passed on Friday, March 3, 2018 in Tacoma, WA at the age of 94. Her parents were Lawrence and Hazel Haines. Dorothy was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon on August 30, 1923, one of three daughters. Later the family inherited a farm at Umpqua, Oregon where she lived until her graduation from Oakland High School. During World War II, Dorothy worked at the Mercy Hospital in Roseburg, Oregon.
Following the War she was a telephone operator for Western Electric phone company where she met Russell James Schumacher Jr. and were subsequently married in 1948. They later moved to Tacoma where she raised three boys. Once the boys were older, Dorothy returned to work in retail sales.
Dorothy was active in Eastern Star and served as a worthy matron in the early 60’s. She was an avid bridge player and upon Jim’s retirement they enjoyed RV traveling and spending winters in El Centro, California. Jim passed away in June of 2004.
Dorothy is survived by sons Bob (Sigrid), Greg (Karen), and Doug (Amy). She had 6 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and was affectionately known to them as “Grammy”. A service is being held on Friday, March at 11:30am for family and friends. Arrangements by Mountain View Funeral Home.
