Dorothy Schroeder's Obituary
Dorothy Schroeder passed away on May 28, 2005 at St. Clare Hospital after a short illness. She was born June 10, 1920 in Belleville, IL. She lived many places before settling in Lakewood in the 1950Â's. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Walter Schroeder and her parents, William and Lena Harris.She spent many years working at J.C. Penney and after retirement she was an active participant in the monthly luncheon with other Penney retirees.Dorothy was extremely active in the life of her church, including representing them with the City of Promise program, sitting on church council, and as an active member of the WomenÂ's Circle and the ELCA. She spearheaded a drive to install stained glass windows in the church. She devoted much time and care to social ministries, including such activities as Cropwalk, Thanksgiving baskets, dinners for various community groups and visiting the sick and those who werenÂ't able to get out.In addition to her church activities, Dorothy was a member of the Red Hat Ladies Society. She loved to travel, read, and sew.Dorothy is survived by her daughters, Diane Schroeder of Long Beach, CA and Nancy (Bill) Witt of Libby, MT; three grandchildren, Wendy Miller and Holly Flint of Porterville, CA and Scott (Kelly) Witt of Paso Robles, CA; four great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and six loving sisters-in law who welcomed her into the Schroeder family as a sister. She leaves many great friends as well as loving family.A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2pm on Friday, June 3rd at St. JohnÂ's Lutheran Church, 8602 Bridgeport Way SW, Lakewood. Donations in Dorothy SchroederÂ's memory may be made to the Dorothy Schroeder Memorial Fund c/o St. JohnÂ's.
