Dorothy Louise Moe's Obituary
Dorothy Louise Moe, born on December 31, 1931, in Huntsville, Alabama, passed away peacefully on December 18, 2024, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and cherished memories. She was an only child to Edgar Love and Dorothy Louise (Apperson) Love. At age of 4 or 5, Dorothy and her mother moved to Tacoma, Washington, where she spent the rest of her life.
Dorothy attended Tacoma Public Schools, including Jefferson Elementary, Mason Junior High, and Stadium High School. She pursued higher education at Washington State College (now University), earning a B.A. in English with an emphasis in Journalism. During her college years, she was an active member of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority and worked at the campus radio station, showcasing her vibrant personality and love for communication.
After graduating, Dorothy returned to Tacoma and embarked on a career in advertising. She initially worked for a radio station and later for the Rhodes department store, which was eventually sold to Nordstrom. Her professional journey continued until shortly before the birth of her first child.
On June 15, 1958, Dorothy married the love of her life, Kenneth G. Moe, at Zion Lutheran Church in Tacoma. It was during this time she embraced the Lutheran faith and became a devoted member at Zion. Dorothy and Kenneth worshiped there until the 1980s, after which they joined St. Marks Lutheran in Tacoma, where she continued to worship until her passing.
Together, Dorothy and Kenneth raised three children—Ronald (1959), Karina (1960), and D. Edwin (1962). She was a proud and loving grandmother to five grandchildren. Her beloved husband, Kenneth, passed away in August 1996.
Dorothy's commitment to community and family was evident in her lifelong involvement with Alpha Chi Omega, where she served as a local chapter president in the mid-1960s. She was deeply engaged in her children's activities, serving as a Cub Scout Den mother, Brownies leader, and president of the PTA at her kids' elementary school.
A passionate sports fan, Dorothy's enthusiasm extended to the WSU Cougars, Seattle Mariners, Seahawks, and the SuperSonics before their departure. She also enjoyed golf and actively supported her children's and grandchildren's sports endeavors.
Dorothy Moe will be remembered as an extremely devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, whose pride in her family knew no bounds. Her legacy of love and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew her.
